Once your beats begin matching videos on YouTube, you will begin to see disputes. This is nothing to worry about, and is perfectly normal. Disputes arise when the video owner does not agree that their video should be monetized by us - this could be because they've bought a license to the beat, the audio is not a correct match, etc.
Once a claim is disputed by the video owner, this will show in your Dashboard as Disputed.
In this situation you have two options: Remove/release the claim, or reinstate/uphold the claim.
Removing the claim will result in you no longer monetizing this video. (You can still monetize other videos using the same beat). We have more info on this here. Once a disputed claim is released, it cannot be reclaimed.
If you wish to continue monetizing the disputed video, click the Reinstate
button on the claim page within 30 days of the dispute being initiated, and this will be sent to our Content ID team to review. If we agree that the claim is valid, we will reinstate this claim, and the video will continue to be monetized. If we feel the claim is not valid (e.g. for the reasons mentioned previously), we will release the claim and the dispute will be resolved.
If you don't take action within 30 days, the dispute is automatically released by YouTube. We will always take steps to try and ensure this doesn't happen, but if you leave a dispute unanswered you are risking it being released, and once released, it cannot be reinstated.
Claims can be managed by going to Dashboard > Monetization
and clicking Claims
in the top right.
